Dumping authorities have brought forward this year’s official mattress dumping month in an effort to stop people chucking entire beds into the street.
It was felt that things could escalate beyond control with dumpers taking things into and then off their own hands.
“Beds could be just the start. I’ve spoken to my colleagues in wardrobes and they are concerned that we could see thousands of units appearing on street corners soon. There is a real sense of dread in kitchen sinks and and baths too and don’t even mention white goods, it’s nearly panic stations.”
“There was so much bed dumping happening it seemed the only thing to do,” said Eileen Sprattknott, head of mattresses at the Furniture UK Dumping Association and Trade, (FUKDAaT).
